See The Stars
Will You Find Me
See The Stars
I briefly worked with a very talented vocalist, Nancy McNabb, and after some rehearsals, we gave some performances at local open mic. During the short time we worked together, I wrote this song for her, because she told me that the expression “I may be lying in the gutter, but I can still see the stars” was one of her favourite. Unfortunately, a family tragedy prompted her move back to the eastern side of the continent. Around the same time, another very talented vocalist, Emily Rohm, offered to record it as well. It is always fascinating to me as a songwriter, to hear to just what extent a song is transformed each time it is sung by a different vocalist, as each brings to it their own personal style and interpretation.

lost it, now I want recovery
all that I am
my words, my thoughts every piece of me
it’s been so long
I really wanna know the things inside my head
I bet it’s quite the diamond mine
I really wanna feel the things inside my breast
burning, churning, yearning...
I’m lying in the gutter
but I can still see the stars oh
I’m lying in the gutter
but I can still see the stars
teach me, everything I need to know
here take my hand
show me, the places where I need to go
it’s been so long
cuz I can’t quite remember when I first got lost
must have been a really good time
and I just can’t recall the day of my first fall
scary, very, merry...
I’m lying in the gutter
but I can still see the stars oh
I’m lying in the gutter
but I can still see the stars
this time, I won’t let go
this time, I’ve got to know
(baby) this time, it’s for real
so don’t lose your faith
baby don’t lose your faith
I really wanna know the things inside my head
I bet it’s quite the diamond mine
I really wanna feel the things inside my breast
burning, churning, yearning...

Will You Find Me
I originally conceived of this song in the pop genre, but I was never quite happy with it. Sometime later I realized that it was probably not in the right genre, so I then set to the task of rearranging the song for piano and standup bass, for more of a jazz feel. It was then sung by an incredibly talented vocalist Emily Rohm, and in turn, by Nancy McNabb, who possesses a voice of raw passion.
Will You Find Me : Music & Lyrics by Daphne Kalfon © 2003
if I call your name, will you, will you hear me
if I close my eyes, will you, will you find me
got to start the day, I’ve got to find another way now
on my own, don’t know how
got to clear my mind and try to realign my life now
without you, can’t think how
if I call your name, will you, will you hear me
if I close my eyes, will you, will you find me
feeling oh so fine, about to lose my mind good day now
don’t let go, don’t let it show
walk with head held high, I look towards the sky and pray now
why oh why, why can’t I?
I can’t stand to feel this way
me and my loneliness
I don’t feel the need to stay
even one more day
if I call your name, will you, will you hear me
if I close my eyes, will you, will you find me
if I call your name, will you, will you hear me
if I close my eyes, will you, will you find me
will you find me
will you find me
will you find me
will you find me
